Starfire Engineering was founded on a combination of extensive engineering expertise and a lifelong passion for the industry. After completing his degree in Mechanical Engineering, Andrew Spurlock, CEO and Founder, started his career supervising the repair of freight and passenger cars. Spurlock advanced to car supervisor, shop manager, engineering manager, and finally Chief Mechanical Engineer for the Burlington Northern Railroad. This hands-on experience has provided invaluable insight into every aspect of railcar design, use, and maintenance.
In January of 1981, Spurlock founded Starfire Engineering. In the years following, Starfire has forged a reputation for being a reliable and innovative resource for rail equipment design and engineering needs. The Starfire team has since had the privilege of developing new car designs and modifications for numerous railroads, railcar manufacturers and private fleet owners of all sizes.
Starfire’s engineering expertise extends to all types of rail equipment – freight/passenger locomotives, transit/passenger vehicles, freight cars of all types, maintenance of way and track geometry equipment, as well as shop machinery, equipment, components, and track layout design support.
